Renault handed suspended disqualification

Formula One governing body the FIA has handed the Renault team a suspended disqualification from the World Championship following Monday's World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) hearing in Paris. The punishment will be placed on hold until the end of the 2011 season and will only be active should a similar happening take place before then.

Monday's hearing in Paris signalled what should be the end of the 'Crashgate' scandal. The FIA believes that the team did indeed cause a deliberate crash in the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix but, having taken into account an apology from the Enstone team plus the fact that former chiefs Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds left the outfit last Wednesday, Renault appears to have come off lightly.

An official FIA statement reads:

'At an extraordinary meeting of the World Motor Sport Council held in Paris on 21 September 2009, the ING Renault F1 team ("Renault F1") admitted that the team had conspired with its driver Nelson Piquet Jr. to cause a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, in breach of the International Sporting Code and F1 Sporting Regulations.

Renault F1 stated at the meeting that it had conducted a detailed internal investigation, which found that: (i) Flavio Briatore, Pat Symonds and Nelson Piquet Jr. had conspired to cause the crash; and (ii) no other team member was involved in the conspiracy.'

Having used information based on its own investigation of the incident in Marina Bay, the FIA listed the reasons why the penalty is suspended (and set to expire at the end of 2011) as opposed to an instant banishing from Formula One:

- Renault confessed as early as possible in the hearing

- Flavio Briatore and Pat Symonds, two of the men responsible, are no longer part of the team

- Renault apologised to the FIA at great lengths

- Renault agreed to cover the FIA's costs for the investigation

- Renault (the manufacturer) agreed to commit itself to FIA-related safety projects


'Nelson Piquet Jr. also apologised unreservedly to the World Motor Sport Council for his part in the conspiracy.'

Symonds ima 5 let prepovedi sodelovanja v sportih, kjer ima FIA roko cez

Briatore pa ima dozivljenski ban, tako sodelovanja pri ekipah, kot menadzmenta dirkacev..

Autosport.com stated:

Renault has been handed a two-year suspended ban for its involvement in fixing the result of last year's Singapore Grand Prix.

The FIA has also stated that former team principal Flavio Briatore will face a lifetime ban from involvement in any of its series - and for anyone involved with him.

Former director of engineering Pat Symonds has been given an effective five-year ban from involvement in FIA-sanctioned motorsport.

FIA legalises equalisation of engines

F1 governing body the FIA has announced that engine manufacturers may now ensure that engines are of equal power by making use a new rule for equalisation. As all engines have been frozen in development since the start of 2007, more powerful units may now be downgraded in order to match the horsepower of rivals' products.

With the engine freeze of two years ago having been introduced in a bid to cut costs, teams have suggested this year that companies such as Mercedes have moved ahead on engine power and, furthermore, that the freeze prevents others from being able to catch up.

Renault was granted special dispensation to increase its power last year although the FIA has now stated that figures may be matched but only be bringing down the power levels of the more powerful units as opposed to increasing the less powerful ones.

The FIA states: 'Following suggestions that there is a differential between the performance of engines used in Formula One, the World Motor Sport Council (WMSC) has decided that should this be the case, and should the teams wish to eliminate this performance differential, they may be allowed to do so by reducing the performance of the more powerful engines. However, no engine upgrades will be allowed.'

Kar mene pri vseh teh kaznih čudi je, da se Alonsu ni skrivil niti lasek. Ali morda kdo prav zares verjame, da o vsem skupaj ni imel pojma? Vsaj kakšno pogojno kazen bi si zaslužil, že tako, zaradi lepšega.

Kazni se itak ne upajo dat, ker pol Reno samo reče bye bye.

Vse so lepo hitro izvedli in spravli pod tepih.
